2016 Health Care Insurance Plans and Rates Announced
ShareA message from Tom Keller, Director of Benefits
As Valencia transitions from Cigna to UnitedHealthcare, reviewing your health insurance options and deciding what is best for your family is a big decision. The benefits team wants to assure you that we’ve got you covered; therefore, we are pleased to announce our 2016 healthcare options and rates. And the best news — Valencia will continue to pay all employee-only coverage at 100 percent in all plans, offer more options and maintain our excellent coverage.
With hard work and creativity, we have landed on a structure that should better meet the needs of our diverse workforce. The 2016 offerings have been developed with employee feedback from the health care survey and other opportunities since we’ve announced we were bidding our health benefits. Here’s an outline of what you shared were your priorities and how we are addressing them in our new plans.
Employees covering their spouses will experience a slight increase in their monthly premium of approximately $47, as spousal claims are consistently more expensive then children’s claims based on our review of medical expense trends.
We will also offer an improved Opt-Out benefit, which will include a $500 annual Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and $1,200 cash. If you wish, you can tax defer the $1,200 by adding it to your FSA or using it for a payroll deduction for other options such as life, dental or vision insurance. Or, receive the monies as taxable income and invest in a retirement savings account or join the YMCA through Valencia’s subsidized membership benefit.
Dental coverage will remain with MetLife, and Valencia will continue to cover the cost at 100 percent for employees.
Vision coverage will be offered through UnitedHealthcare. Coverage costs have decreased slightly, and like last year, coverage will be paid 100 percent by the employee.
The Employee Assistance Program, which Valencia will continue to cover at 100 percent for employees, will be offered through UnitedHealthcare’s OptumHealth. Like our current program, OptumHealth will offer up to six free visits.
For additional details and explanations of each of the plans and other benefits options, attend an upcoming Benefits Tour. Also, the benefits team is providing computer labs and assistance with open enrollment at these locations and times.
