Amy Comerford To Serve as Interim Dean, Mathematics

A Message from Falecia Williams, President, West and Downtown Campuses

I’m very pleased to have Amy Comerford, a respected faculty member, serve as the interim dean, mathematics for West Amy-Comerford-270wCampus. She began the role on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, and is working as an understudy to Russell Takashima, the current dean, through Wednesday, November 30, 2016, when Russell retires. She will fully take the helm of the department on Thursday, December 1, 2016. The search for a standing dean will begin in the spring term 2017.

Originally from Illinois, Amy, like many other young professionals, was originally drawn to Orlando by the Walt Disney World College Program — and she never left. She worked various jobs in the area before deciding to pursue an education at Valencia, where she received her associate degree in 2001. Deeply impressed by the College’s students and faculty, she set out to earn her bachelor’s degree in math education and master’s degree in math from the University of Central Florida, so she could one day return to Valencia as a professor.

After teaching as an adjunct professor on Osceola, East and West Campuses, she was hired as a tenure earning professor in 2007 and achieved tenure in 2010. She has since served the College in numerous capacities.

When she isn’t at Valencia — which she considers to be her second home — you can find her enjoying time with her wife and two young daughters.
