You are invited to participate in an annual professional development program that brings Valencia colleagues together to explore teaching and learning innovations, challenges, and solutions.
Join us this summer to work with colleagues from diverse fields, who have varied experiences and interests. This year’s program will feature two experiences—Great Teachers Colloquium and Great Teachers in Action—and will be valuable for faculty who have participated in Destination and those who are new to the experience.
Great Teachers Colloquium
Because we learn best from one another, this opportunity will bring together dedicated faculty who seek to explore the art of teaching and discover or re-discover the “great teacher” within. Through this experience, faculty members will engage in meaningful discussions with colleagues to discover realistic, creative approaches for teaching and learning and reflect upon attitudes, methods, and behaviors as teachers. This track is recommended for all faculty members who are new to Valencia, new to teaching, or faculty members who have not yet attended Destination or Great Teachers Colloquium.
Great Teachers in Action
Action Research, a scholarly approach to improve teaching and learning, is a pillar of great teaching. This opportunity will bring together dedicated faculty who seek to engage in collaborative study of learning as it takes place day-by-day in the context of their own practices. Through this experience, faculty members will plan and conduct small-scale, practical research to investigate questions regarding student learning that directly impact their practices. This track is recommended for any faculty member who is interested in deepening and improving their professional practice through the creation and implementation of an Action Research Project. Participants should be experienced in Valencia’s faculty development courses and/or the Essential Competencies of a Valencia Educator.
All Valencia faculty members are encouraged to apply, including full-time and part-time teachers, counselors, and librarians. Please apply before Friday, March 29, 2013. Seats are limited. Applicants will be notified regarding their participation status by April 5, 2013.
