A Message from Stacey Johnson, President, East & Winter Park Campuses

Three East Campus deans, David Sutton, Lynn Dorn and Linda Neal, were recently recognized for their career anniversaries during a president/leadership team meeting on Thursday, February 26, 2015.

Linda Neal started her career at Valencia in 1998 as an adjunct professor in the Communications Division. Since then, she has held progressively responsible positions as a temporary full-time professor, tenure-track faculty, tenured faculty and coordinator of the Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA). In 2013, Linda accepted her current position as dean of communication. Linda has many memorable moments at Valencia College and said, “Altogether it’s the people, faculty, staff and students that makes my role memorable.”

Lynn Dorn started her career journey at Valencia in 1980 as an adjunct professor in the Science Division. She has served many roles, including temporary full-time professor, tenure-track and tenured faculty. In 2013, Lynn accepted her current role as dean of science. She reflects on her favorite Valencia memory, the luncheon for newly-tenured faculty with Dr. Shugart in 2000. “This was the first time newly-tenured faculty were honored in this way. I knew that the College would change for the better under his leadership, and I was excited about being on the ground floor and watching us grow,” Lynn said.

David Sutton began his career in 1982 at Valencia as an adjunct professor in humanities. He later accepted a tenure-track position in 1984, which lead to a tenured position. David has taught in the Interdisciplinary Honors Program (IDH) and was formerly professor of the East Campus Prometheus Project. In 2008, David accepted his current assignment as dean of the Humanities and Foreign Language Division. During the summer of 2012, he served as interim campus president for East and Winter Park Campuses. “My most proud Valencia moment was when one of our homeless students from the Prometheus Project was given the distinguished graduate award and delivered an incredibly moving address at graduation.”
