A message from Falecia Williams, President, West Campus
On Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19, 2016, a rich tradition continued for Valencia’s Associate in Arts architecture students: the 2016 University of Central Florida (UCF) Bachelor of Design in Architecture Pin-Up. The Pin-Up is an academic event allowing students to “pin-up,” or present, their coursework from Valencia College’s Architectural Design 1 through Design 4 sequence for consideration of admittance into UCF’s upper division portion of the articulated 2+2+2 architecture program.
The 2+2+2 is a unique and fruitful partnership between Valencia, UCF and the University of Florida (UF), providing a clear curricular pathway for students beginning at Valencia to ultimately achieve a Master of Architecture degree at UF’s City Lab, located in downtown Orlando.
The 2016 Pin-Up hosted 67 applicants with 15 local practitioners and partners serving as judges. The top 10 scoring boards were selected from the overall group for archival purposes, and the students who crafted the top three will receive a scholarship from the UCF Foundation in the fall.
A recent applicant, Jennifer Princivil, described the Pin-Up best when she said, “The Pin-up is terrifying, exhausting, exhilarating and exciting all at once.” Allen Watters, program chair for architecture and professor, architecture, and Kourtney Baldwin, professor, architecture, are very proud of the quality of work and the professionalism of these students.
