Ask Amy — Practical Advice for Supervisors: How Can I Help My Employees with Human Resources-Related Questions?
ShareA Message from Amy Bosley, Vice President, Organizational Development and Human Resources
As a supervisor, your employees often expect you to have all of the answers, especially when it comes to human resources-related questions. Fortunately, we don’t expect you to have all the answers, especially when it comes to such important and personal human resources questions such as payroll, benefits, records, employee conflicts, etc.
As part of a recently enhanced Organizational Development and Human Resources (ODHR) service model, we offer the service — HR4U.
A dedicated helpline designed to provide personal, just-in-time answers to everyday human resources questions, HR4U features a phone extension, HR4U (4748), and an email, HR4U@valenciacollege.edu. Any calls or emails to this line are answered by ODHR navigators who are able to assist employees with general ODHR questions and connect employees to the appropriate resources as necessary.
Even if you’re accustomed to contacting a particular ODHR staff member, we recommend contacting HR4U instead. Why? Your contact may be on vacation, in a meeting, etc. With multiple navigators, we can provide you a quicker response.
So whether it’s a question about open enrollment for benefits, pay raises, registering for an employee workshop, Employee Development funds, parenting leave or a myriad of other human resources questions, please contact HR4U. We’re here to help.
“Ask Amy” is designed to provide supervisors with guidance to successfully navigate opportunities and challenges in your daily work, as you create a culture for employee success within your teams. Each month, I, along with featured guest contributors, will address a question and offer practical solutions from which all supervisors can benefit.
If you would like to ask a question, simply email me with “Ask Amy” in the subject line. Submissions will be included anonymously in the Supervisor Segment and The Grove, and will be addressed monthly as they are received.
