Ask Amy — Practical Advice for Supervisors: Will Employees Who Take Leave the Day Before or After Break Receive Holiday Pay?
ShareA Message from Amy Bosley, Vice President, Organizational Development and Human Resources
Our Payroll Services team receives many questions pertaining to leave around winter break, such as, if an employee takes time off the day before or after a holiday break and does not have time available, will the employee be eligible for holiday pay?
Recently, Bettie Cooper, director, payroll services, shared the answer to this question in The Juice — employees who do take time off the day before or after a holiday break and do not have time available will not be eligible for holiday pay. Fortunately, our Request and Manage My Leave system is live, which means employees can immediately see if they’re using more leave than they have available, because the available balance will be negative once the leave request is submitted.
Of course, the Organizational Development and Human Resources (ODHR) team is here to answer questions like this one, but we also like to share the information with you in advance, so you feel empowered to answer your team members’ questions. Bettie’s post also included important information on overtime practices and banked holidays, which are also questions that come up often during this time of year. I encourage each of you to review Bettie’s article closely. To review the article, click here.
If you have questions, contact ODHR at HR4U@valenciacollege.edu, or call the HR4U helpline at 407-299-5000, extension HR4U (4748). We’re here to help.
And I hope each of you has a happy holiday season.
