Building 4 Spotlight: Testing and Assessment Center

A message from Dr. Kathleen Plinske, Campus President, Osceola and Lake Nona

Located in 4-248, Osceola’s new Testing and Assessment Center houses two large testing rooms that provide 100 seats for electronic and paper-based testing. The new facility, which will be jointly used with UCF, provides space for current students to make up exams and for new students to complete their PERT testing. Additionally, the space provides two dedicated rooms for students with disabilities who require adapted tests.

The former Testing Center and Assessment Center have been merged into one department that now provides students with a seamless testing experience at Valencia. All outside-the-classroom testing and college placement assessment occurs in one location, minimizing student confusion regarding testing on campus.

Best practices from the previous Testing and Assessment Centers will continue in our new joint facility. For example, students will be directed to turn off cell phones and secure personal items in draw-string bags provided at check-in. Students will be prompted to keep the bag at their feet while testing. Cameras have also been installed in the testing rooms to monitor for inappropriate behavior.

Issues related to academic dishonesty will continue to be a priority for the Testing and Assessment Center staff, and all incidents will be reported to the appropriate faculty member and academic dean. The security of online tests has been enhanced by SchoolVue software, which allows staff to remotely monitor students’ work on the computer and securely enter passwords in Blackboard.

The Testing and Assessment Center staff invites you to visit and learn more about the new space!
