CareerSource Central Florida and Valencia College have teamed up to deliver Summer Youth Programs to youth ages 15-19 years old in Orange and Osceola County. These programs connect teenagers and young adults to opportunities offered by various schools, technical and vocational programs.

CareerSource Central Florida offers two different four-week tracks in partnership with Valencia College:

  • Explore: The Explore program exposes students to in-demand careers and a variety of educational pathways through tours, classroom learning and hands-on projects.
  • Accelerate: The Accelerate program connects participants to specialized training in industries with high-demand skill sets and allows them to earn industry recognized certifications.

Valencia College offers programs in Culinary Arts, Healthcare, Computer Coding and Advanced Manufacturing in conjunction with our teams in the Valencia College Culinary program and Accelerated Skills Training. This June, the College served more than 160 youth across six Explorer programs and three Accelerator programs, all in a virtual learning format.

As a key benefit of successfully completing their programs, each participant receives a stipend of $200 a week, plus a $200 bonus at the end of the program — up to $1,000 total. This stipend allows participants to save for future plans or even help their families, all while learning and earning certifications along the way.

Some of the certifications that students can earn include the National HealthCareer Association’s soft skills certification, PersonAbility, through the Healthcare track. Students in the culinary track, who have groceries delivered to their homes via Instacart, can earn a Food Safety and Handling certification. Meanwhile, computer coding students can earn a Microsoft certification for Introduction to Programming Using HTML and CSS at the end of their program.

This July, the second wave of Summer Youth Programs will introduce virtual and face-to-face offerings to approximately 175 more youth in our community. It’s such a pleasure to educate our young people about fast-growing careers and all that Valencia has to offer them.

Where can I get more information on registration please? I have a few dual enrollment students who would be interested and can benefit greatly. Thank you.

Hey Yasmeen, registration has closed for this summer's sessions. However, if you have any youth interested in attending next summer, you can visit CareerSource's site on these programs directly at…. Applications opened early in March this year, so I would check back next Spring. I hope this helps future students out!
