Centers for Teaching/Learning Innovation Named AFC Teaching and Learning Center Award Finalist
ShareCongratulations to our Faculty Development team, as our Centers for Teaching/Learning Innovation were named a finalist for the Association of Florida Colleges’ (AFC) Teaching and Learning Center Award. The award pays tribute to exemplary teaching and learning centers that inspire and advance teaching and learning. It also highlights the exemplary institutional programs and accomplishments of college centers, as demonstrated by their impact on student success, retention and graduation.
The top prize was presented to St. Petersburg’s College of Veterinary Nursing. Other finalists, in addition to Valencia College, included Chipola College’s Academic Center of Excellence, Daytona State Colleges’ Writing Across the Curriculum and Writing-in-the-Disciplines programs and Indian River State College’s Institute for Academic Excellence.
As one of the finalists, Campus Directors of Faculty Development Stephanie Spong, Dori Haggerty and Shara Lee presented about Valencia’s centers during the AFC Conference on College Teaching and Learning in St. Petersburg, and the Faculty Development team accepted a plaque during the conference’s closing session.
Valencia’s Centers for Teaching/Learning Innovation support all faculty members in improving teaching excellence and student learning. Each center creates a hub for collaboration and intellectual inquiry and serves as a catalyst for the expansion of campus-based communities of practice and the advancement of teaching, learning, scholarship and technology. Services include consultation by faculty developers/instructional designers, programs and events, teaching tools, digital engagement support, an Essential Competency library, and computers, printers, iPads and video equipment.
