Changes Coming to OIT May 9, 2016
ShareA Message from Dr. Sandy Shugart, Valencia College President
As our spring term comes to a close and we look forward to commencement, I’d like to advise you of an important change in the College’s senior leadership team.
Bill White has served Valencia well for the past 18 years as our senior leader of technology strategy, support and services. In this capacity, Bill has led the development and maintenance of our technology infrastructure, learning management systems, data warehouse and more. I am deeply grateful for his service and commitment to the College and to our students. As we explore the potential of predictive analytics to support student learning and educational pathways, I have asked Bill to join Joyce Romano (who, later this summer, will assume the role of vice president, educational partnerships) in leading the data/technology elements of the pathways and partnership work.
Because our information technology services is a critical infrastructure element for the day-to-day operations of the College, having sustained leadership of the area is a critical need. Fortunately, as part of the exhaustive search process for the vice president for business operations and finance, in which we hired Loren Bender, we found a second extraordinary leader with significant experience and talents in information technology strategy and operations. Thoroughly vetted through the Business Operations and Finance search process, John Slot met with a small team recently to specifically discuss leading the information technology work of the College and has accepted the vice president, information technology position, effective Monday, May 9, 2016. Though I would normally engage in a full search process to fill such a vacancy, I determined that the continuity of leadership in this critical area was a higher value for the College at this time.
I will introduce John to you in greater detail in a few weeks. In the meantime, please join me in thanking Bill for his work and leadership.
