Commemorate the Fifth Anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub Massacre

Tuesday, June 1, 2021

Date: Friday, June 11, 2021
Time: 12 p.m.
Location: Student Development YouTube Channel

As a commemoration of the tragic events that occurred five years ago at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, taking 49 beautiful souls from our Central Florida Community, the Collegewide Student Development Cultural and Diversity Team will host an annual virtual Pulse Remembrance event on Friday, June 11, 2021.

Join the Student Development Cultural and Diversity Team in recognizing the souls we lost by celebrating in their memory. Standing in solidarity with our L.G.B.T.Q.I.A.+ community during Pulse and Pride Month, we want to let Central Florida know that Valencia College is Still Dancing as we continue to learn how to live in a world without the people who made it special.

Student Development is requesting a clip of you dancing to “I Wanna Dance with Somebody Who Loves Me” by Whitney Houston to add to a video montage that will be played in the virtual Pulse Remembrance event. Please take a moment to record yourself dancing and singing and submit it to Dropbox. Here is an example.

All submissions are due by Friday, June 4, 2021. Remember, the Student Development team is not looking for professional dance auditions or video performances. The goal is to recognize the Pulse tragedy in a way that allows us to continue to heal by letting the world know we are Still Dancing.

Last year’s Pulse remembrance event can be viewed here.
