With the spring term about to begin, this is an ideal time to consider the topics to be featured during Conversation on Justice 2022 — which will be held from Monday, January 24 – Thursday, January 27, 2022 — for course content or division work. Topics may be particularly relevant as many address issues of equity, a central focus at the College. The free conference welcomes all Valencia staff, faculty and students, as well as community members, for virtual and in-person events.
Each event, through the power of transformative stories, facilitated dialogue, film and more, delves into critical conversations with the ultimate goal of promoting a culture of peace and mending the fabric of our humanity.
This year, Conversation on Justice features a keynote event with Rachel Louise Snyder, an American journalist and author of “No Visible Bruises: What We Don’t Know About Domestic Violence Can Kill Us,” which explores the roots of private violence, its far-reaching consequences and the efforts to address the problem.
Additionally, the week features a live and live-streamed theatrical reading of New York playwright Rob Urbinati’s “Dissenting Voices,” inspired by Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States.” The play is a symphony of our nation’s bravest voices, providing a full journey in the struggles that have shaped America from its inception to the present day.

Workshops will be facilitated by faculty, staff and members of our community, focusing on racial equity, domestic violence, immigration, neurodiversity, gender, LGBTQ+ topics and the environment.
