Culinary, Baking and Pastry, and Hospitality Programs Announce New Social Media Channels

A Message from Falecia Williams, President, West and Downtown Campuses

Valencia College’s Culinary Management, Baking and Pastry Management, and Hospitality and Tourism Management programs have two new, virtual venues to showcase their student’s work: Facebook and Instagram pages.

“This brings extra learning opportunities to the table, and promotes a sense of community with socialization in many forms,” said Jennifer Denlinger, professor, culinary management.

The pages, she added, will help promote both “distance learning and passion,” as well as help students share information and successes, especially considering their programs are spread across multiple campuses. The pages are especially important now that some instruction has moved online as a result of COVID-19, she said.

“Teaching a very tactile and guest-driven skill set has taken a new meaning when it has to be done all online,” she said. “Though there are many skills that can be learned and much knowledge to be gained through studying, the true passion of our students, and faculty are the hands-on results that they deliver.”

Instructors are encouraged to share what their students are doing in class, post announcements and include other useful information. Students can also post, tag and share their own work. Jennifer said industry members and partners were asked to provide feedback and were encouraged to share information found on Valencia’s pages.
