Daryl Davis Named One of the Top 100 UCF Knights Male Athletes of All Time

Tuesday, July 14, 2020

Congratulations to our very own Daryl Davis, assistant vice president, analytics and reporting, for being named one of the Top 100 University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights Male Athletes of All Time.

Daryl was a four-year basketball starter at UCF from 1991-1995, scoring 1,540 career points, which ranks 9th all-time at the University of Central Florida, and pulling down 500 career rebounds, according to UCF’s website. Davis also ranks 8th all-time in assists (294). He led UCF to its first NCAA Tournament in Division I (D-I) in 1994 and was inducted into the UCF Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.

“This is truly an honor and I really do appreciate being recognized as one of the top male athletes of all time. Especially after looking at some of the names that I was ahead of,” said Daryl. “It gives me a warm feeling to know that all of the hard work and time I put into perfecting my craft (basketball) was much appreciated … I often attend UCF sporting events, and I have seen the growth of the school and the sports programs and it makes me feel good to know that I was a critical part of building what they have today.”

Daryl, who has been at Valencia for 14 years, started at the College as an institutional research analyst and was promoted to director of institutional research prior to moving to his current position. He holds a bachelor’s degree in management and a master’s degree in computer information systems.

Until November 2019, Daryl, who said he still plays basketball twice a week, coached Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball, a role he held for a decade. While coaching, he said his goal was to teach his team “how to be productive young men first by teaching them all of the qualities that sports has taught me.”

He added playing sports at Division-I level prepared him for the world and the workplace “more than any other experience I have had.”

“Through sports, I learned how to set goals and work hard to achieve those goals,” he said. “Also, playing in front of very large crowds taught me how to perform under pressure. I also think that losing in sports teaches you how to handle disappointments, forcing you to go back to the drawing board to see what you did wrong in an effort to improve for the next game.”
