East Campus Faculty Coming in Loud and Clear
ShareA Message from Stacey Johnson, President, East and Winter Park Campuses
East Campus faculty can now be heard on Valencia College’s very own radio station. Many of our talented faculty have developed their own podcasts that can be heard weekly.
So what is a podcast? Commonly described as on-demand internet radio talk shows, podcasts are a fun combination of learning new concepts and filling the heart with inspiration. Listening to podcasts can significantly increase time spent on learning, even if it is only for a few minutes per day. You never know when those insights and creative ideas can come in handy!
Speech Professor Kathleen O’Neal and Psychology Professor Linda Freeman are currently producing a show, called the The Anxious Potato. It began in fall 2018 and airs Thursdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm on Valencia College Radio. This show tackles how the fields of communication and psychology can help listeners become happier and healthier through self-awareness and connection with others. It is available on the Mixlr app, Facebook and Twitter.
Part-time Speech Professor Claudine Tomlinson-Burney is a veteran podcaster. First, she had her students from MMC 2126C, Radio and Podcasting, create a podcast for the Valencia Voice News Minute each week. She also hosts a live radio show, called Ital Vibes, airing Fridays from 2 – 3 p.m., dedicated to the music and culture of the Caribbean.
Valencia College Radio is 24/7 and focuses on live shows. After a live broadcast is finished, the recording is automatically uploaded online to the archives, so the show host can post it on social media or podcasting hosting outlets for others to listen to at a later time.
