Teaching innovation using modern technology was the focus for two Valencia East Campus professors, Jerry Hensel, professor, computer programming and analysis, and Heith Hennel, professor, information technology, as they represented Valencia College at the Seventh Annual Academic Excellence Symposium at Daytona State College on Friday, March 6, 2015. The theme was “Putting it into Perspective: Rediscovering Our Passion for Student Success.”

The professors focused on creative ways to engage students in the classroom, using technology to promote student engagement and success. Their strategies included:

  • Utilizing dynamic technologies to engage students beyond the classroom
  • Developing technology-based assignments based on individual student experience
  • Partnering with local businesses to promote technology talks
  • Creating video quizzes to promote diversity in learning styles
  • Fusing cutting-edge technology for online, hybrid and face-to-face delivery modes to develop critical and creative thinking skills

Participants gained knowledge on how to maximize their time, connect with students and team teach, using modern technology.
