Faculty Governance Updates, January 2015

By Carl Creasman, President, Collegewide Faculty Association

carl-creasman-270wHappy New Year and welcome back! I hope that each of you had a memorable winter break. As we begin 2015 restored and refreshed, I’d like to reiterate just a few items so that you will keep them top of mind.

First, the work teams will continue to evaluate the Essential Competencies. I hope that you completed the survey and shared your input on this important work. Stay tuned for the work product that emerges from the steering committee and work teams, as it will reflect the insights we were able to glean from the survey.

The Association also looks forward to completing the the evaluation of tenured faculty procedure. The new procedure will be fully implemented during the 2015 – 2016 academic year, so we have a year to get acclimated to the new online evaluation tool. Let’s all continue to strive for excellence and contribute to our common goal of student success.

Let’s also continue to be meticulous about recording the “Last Date of Attendance” to ensure the College’s compliance with U.S. Department of Education requirements as it relates to financial aid. Get in the habit of recording the Last Date of Attendance as soon as you are aware or notified that the student is no longer in your class.

You may also remember that I interviewed Dr. Shugart prior to Academic Assembly where we discussed several pertinent topics that included updates on state funding, campus expansion, enrollment, governance, creating a culture of service and more. Those 10 videos are housed on The Grove and organized by topic. I encourage you to watch these videos for a look at the College’s strategic vision and all we hope to attain.

And finally, don’t miss the different opportunities this semester to join your fellow Association members for one of our casual “Celebrate Faculty” gatherings. The Association leadership team wants to celebrate you and all your hard work for our students.

We hope you will pop in for light refreshments and good fellowship. Even if you can only stay for a few minutes, please come on over!
