Faculty Ombuds Update — August 2021

Thursday, August 26, 2021

A Message from Ben Taylor, Assistant Director, Equal Opportunity and ODHR Partners

As you may recall, in the Welcome Your New Faculty Ombuds article from April 2021, we introduced our new faculty ombuds representatives, Ramon Velez-Cruz and Ann Heiny. Over the course of the summer, Ramon and Ann have been deeply engaged with our Equal Opportunity team and various partners across the College, learning about the policies and resources available in order to be ready to thoughtfully support faculty in the capacity of faculty ombuds representatives starting this fall.

During the summer, they have been busy taking deep dives into topics such as:

  • Dispute resolution
  • Disciplinary action
  • Ethical conduct and performance
  • Resources at Valencia and in the community

As the academic year progresses, you can expect to hear more information directly from Ann and Ramon as they begin their work in earnest. To promote awareness and access to resources and support, they have been planning visits with campus leadership teams and are available to visit with academic departments upon request as well.

In the faculty ombuds representative role, Ann and Ramon are available to work directly with you navigating through the dispute resolution process and to help guide you to resources as may be appropriate. To connect with them individually, contact Ann at aheiny@valenciacollege.edu and Ramon at rvelez20@valenciacollege.edu.

In addition to the Faculty Ombuds Representative, Organizational Development and Human Resources (ODHR) is always a resource available to you. To connect with ODHR, you can email HR4U@valenciacollege.edu or call 407-299-5000, extension HR4U (4748).
