Interim Assistant Director of Talent Acquisition Andrea Toranzo Rivero spends her days searching for just the right people to fill all of the roles Valencia College has available.
“Recruitment can be challenging yet rewarding at the same time,” Andrea explains.
“I would describe my role as dynamic. Keeping up with current recruitment trends is very important, especially in this job market.”
Andrea came to the College almost four years ago, bringing with her some talents of her own.
For example, Andrea minored in Chinese in college, and she’s currently taking Portuguese classes.
She also knows how to relax in her free time.
“I love traveling with my husband, especially to Spain. I am also a big fan of mini get-away weekends, a drive to the closest beach with a good Spotify playlist is so relaxing,” she says.
You can also find her working out at Orange Theory, sometimes as many as five days a week.
But when Andrea’s at work, she and her team are doing the so-called heavy lifting when it comes to finding the right talent to help fulfill Valencia’s mission to serve students.
“Valencia signifies opportunities. It not only provides different programs and options for students to enroll in but it also brings so much value to the Central Florida region,” she says.
One of her favorite things to see, though, is how many Valencia graduates want to come back and help fulfill that mission as employees.
“I believe Valencia also signifies partnership and a sense of belonging. We’ve seen that there are a lot of students that come back to Valencia as faculty or staff members because they believe in our vision and mission,” she says.
For those of us already working here, Andrea sees the big picture of how we all get the job done, and she appreciates the fact that she works with multiple partners across the College to help everyone fulfill their hiring goals.
“I love the fact each of our roles at the College has an impact in some way or another. That is the reason why I decided to join Valencia almost four years ago. I like to go to work every day and feel that my job is valuable and that I am making a difference,” she says.
Before becoming interim assistant director of talent acquisition, Andrea served as senior talent acquisition partner for the College. She was also a talent acquisition specialist for Bluegreen Vacations in Orlando and served as a recruiter for Insight Global, which is based in Miami.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in management and marketing from the University of Mount Union in Ohio.
Andrea is also a member of the Honor Society for Accounting, Business and Economics and holds a Diversity and Inclusion Recruiter (AIRS) certification.
