If you have liked something on Valencia’s Facebook page, followed the college’s Tweets, or read content on one of our blogs, you were experiencing the handiwork of Craig Blazejewski, director of interactive marketing, who in collaboration with his colleagues in marketing and strategic communications (MSC) is responsible for our social media efforts.
Craig’s leadership in our marketing and strategic communication department ensures that the digital communication experience of students, employees and visitors is seamless.
At Valencia, we have been benefiting from Craig’s marketing know-how since 2007. He began his career here as a senior marketing manager for the Continuing Education (CE) division. His goal there was to integrate the college’s CE programs into the community with Valencia’s overall brand image. During his time as a senior marketing manager, Craig launched Valencia’s Signature Events program for business professionals, and he kept our partnerships with organizations, such as the Disney Institute, strong.
In 2010, he was promoted to director of interactive marketing after the marketing and strategic communications department was reorganized. Craig immediately began cultivating collaborative relationships with our student affairs team, transitions and enrollment services, the office for information technology (OIT), and other stakeholders throughout the college to develop campaign tactics for digital communication. During his first year in this role, he was instrumental in developing a new brand for Valencia after we dropped ‘community’ from our moniker.
Lucy Boudet, vice president of marketing and strategic communications, considers Craig an “indispensable contributor” to her team.
“I’m certain we could not function at the level we do in marketing and public relations without him,” Lucy said. “He has a quiet style, but an extraordinary grasp of what is possible. He would intimidate others if he weren’t also such a nice guy – generous with his knowledge, always ready to offer smart solutions. My goal is to be half as smart as Craig and just as kind.”
One accomplishment Craig is most proud of has been implementing the unified events calendar, Valencia Events. He explains that our modernized calendar enables the college to streamline its event notices by publishing once and then simply feeding it throughout our website, to Atlas and to the Valencia College mobile application.
As someone who has marketed for major retailers, such as Everything But Water and Hilton Worldwide Brands, Craig tells us that he is rewarded by working at Valencia because he is able to go beyond the bottom line profit goals of marketing.
“The student is at the heart of our work,” Craig said. “It is about helping a student get one step closer to a degree and improve their own lives.”
Craig’s marketing expertise most recently captured the attention of Chancellors Frank Brogan and Randy Hanna of the State University System, who requested that he serve on the task force for postsecondary online education in Florida. This task force aims to address a variety of issues related to online programs and services, while planning with state needs, student demands and cost effectiveness in mind.
Craig holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations, with a minor in sociology from the University of Central Florida.
