Featured Colleague – Samanta Matadin

By Stephanie McMillen

Samanta Matadin is described by her supervisor as someone who takes great pride in her work as an East Campus front-line learning leader. Serving in a dual role, she is the University of Florida (UF) Online Business Program advisor and the administrative technical support specialist for East Campus.

“Samanta is an exemplary employee who routinely exceeds expectations and is an excellent role model for students and her peers,” said Michelle Foster, East Campus dean of academic affairs. “She is genuine and takes great pride in her work.”

Juggling responsibilities of two positions, Samanta is responsible for coordinating and scheduling all room reservations for East Campus meetings and events, and for carrying out special projects and assignments, such as the weekend college brochure and enrollment reports. In addition, she is responsible for marketing, advertising and proctoring for the UF Online Business Program, including visiting and speaking with prospective students at other institutions.

“I am very proud of my contribution to our students and assisting them with their transition to the UF Online Business Program,” Samanta said. “I believe my drive and commitment has been a major factor in the growth and development of the program.”

Prior to joining Valencia, Samanta was an instructor at Barbizon School of Modeling and worked her way up to become the director of education at Barbizon of Orlando. She also held various positions in product and merchandise advertising. During her early career, Samanta shared that “Valencia was always at the back of my mind as a potential employer. I was drawn to the culture of the institution.”

In 2007, she was hired and has since found her prior held beliefs about Valencia to be true. “Working at Valencia means professionalism, integrity, value and loyalty,” she said.

Most recently Samanta was charged with coordinating and writing articles for the East and Winter Park Campus Concentrate newsletter – a contribution to the campuses that she is proud to make. “Thanks to the leadership of Dr. Stacey Johnson and Michelle Foster, this opportunity has allowed me to create new relationships and learning outcomes,” Samanta shared.

Last year, Samanta earned her master’s degree in strategic leadership from Mountain State University. She also holds an associate’s degree in accounting from Valencia and bachelor’s degree in marketing and accounting from the University of Central Florida.

Samanta’s hobbies include traveling, yoga, gardening and spending time with her “fabulous” family, friends and three wonderful dogs.
