Andrew Becker and Erica Reese present Ana Solis with the first ValCup Award.
When Director of Standardized Testing Erica Reese and her department wanted to recognize fellow staff members who go above and beyond their daily responsibilities and give fellow co-workers an opportunity to recognize their peers, they created a special way to provide interdepartmental recognition.
It was out of this desire that the Valencia ValCup Award was created in a collaborative effort between the assessment department director, coordinators and staff assistant.
“We know that our staff are consistently providing excellent service to our Valencia students and wanted to create a way to acknowledge and appreciate all of their efforts,” said Erica.
Any assessment department staff member is eligible to receive the award for exceptional service rendered to students or internal customers.
“It can be something as simple as personally walking a student to the appropriate office or more involved like creating an organizational chart for departmental policies for staff to utilize,” Erica pointed out.
Each assessment department staff member is encouraged to nominate his or her fellow peers for the ValCup Award by sending email nominations to the staff assistant throughout the year. Each quarter, the nominations are voted on by the department’s director, coordinators and staff assistant.
What gives the award value is that its symbolic of the recipient’s hard work and the respect of his or her peers. The recipient displays the ValCup until it is passed on to the next winner on a quarterly basis. Inside the ValCup is a certificate and treats, and winners are recognized by their peers collegewide.
Ana Solis is the first ValCup winner. Ana, an assessment specialist at the Osceola Campus, was nominated for “thinking ahead of the curve to anticipate student and staff needs,” Erica said.
Other staff members receiving honorable mention were:
- Yiovana Rivera, assessment specialist, East Campus
- Danielle Danforth, assessment specialist, West Campus
- Dino DeJesus Alvira, assessment specialist, Osceola Campus
- Andrew Becker, coordinator, testing and assessment, Osceola Campus
