Valencia College was chosen by radio station XL106.7 as one of five teams to participate in an eight-week corporate weight loss challenge. The College’s rivals are Insurance of America (IOA), Walt Disney World, Florida Hospital and the Parliament House.

Members of the financial services department, located in the District Office, bellied up for the competition. Weighing in for Valencia are Elaine Diaz, accounts payable specialist; Sue Fagan, director budget/analysis; Diane Fahr, director, financial services; Josh Grossman, accounts payable coordinator; and Dana Scott, accounts payable specialist.

At the two-week mark, the group had lost a total of 20.5 pounds, an average of two pounds per person. All are in it to win it.

“Besides the obvious weight loss, it is strengthening our relationship and validating our commitment to each other as a support group to live a healthier lifestyle,” said Diane.

Sue, Elaine and Diane meet at the gym in the morning before work. Josh has hired a personal trainer, and Dana is exercising with her six-month-old baby at home doing Zumba and a personally-designed workout routine.

They’ve also whipped up a couple of healthy communal meals. Sue made a nutritious turkey vegetable soup one week, and Diane brought in veggies from her garden with which they made a huge salad to share.

The winning team chosen by XL106.7 will be the one with the highest percentage of weight loss. The prize includes a one-year membership to Planet Fitness for each team participant plus $500 to be shared by the victors.

The final weigh-in will be on or around Friday, March 20, 2015.

Whatever the final result, these “losers” are winners in our book!
