A Message from Sam Dunham, Interim Director, Employee Development

As we continue to serve our students, institution and community, it is clear that we work with extraordinary colleagues at the College. Though it is great to identify employees’ superb work, supervisors can take even more proactive steps to ensure that our colleagues are recognized.

As you think about ways to recognize your team members this semester, I wanted to share the four formal recognition opportunities that will be available this fall. Please feel free to encourage your team members to nominate others and apply for these recognition opportunities themselves.

Education and Professional Development Leave (EPDL)

The purpose of this program is to provide an educational and professional opportunity for staff members to enhance their individual and professional effectiveness. Full-time, exempt and non-exempt staff and administrators with at least five years of continuous full-time, qualifying Valencia service and who are not in the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) are eligible to apply for Education and Professional Development Leave.

For questions about EPDL, contact Natasha McIllmurray, coordinator, employee development, at nmcilmurray@valenciacollege.edu or 407-299-5000, extension 1819.

Sabbatical Leave

The purpose of this program is to provide professional renewal for eligible faculty. Full-time, tenured faculty who have at least five years of continuous, qualifying Valencia service and who are not in the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) are eligible to apply for Sabbatical Leave but must complete seven years of continuous, qualifying service before a Sabbatical Leave can commence.

For questions about Sabbatical, contact Jaclyn Taylor, coordinator, employee development, at jtaylor230@valenciacollege.edu, or 407-299-5000, extension 5567.
