Get to Know Your CSA – East Campus

As a part of the series titled, “Get to Know Your CSA,” this week, we present the Career Staff Association (CSA) at the East Campus – chaired by Jorge Valladares, academic advisor for student disability services.

The Career Staff Association (CSA) is a college-wide organization that provides a platform for career service staff members to engage in career development opportunities, community outreach projects, and a variety of other activities that serve to enrich the employment experience and enhance the relationship of career service employees with the college, and with each other.

Jorge decided to participate in the CSA at East Campus shortly after beginning his career at Valencia in 2010. “I decided to participate in the CSA because I am passionate about the employment relationship and the health of the work environment,” he explained.

Before Valencia, Jorge was a human resources professional focused on employee relations, training and recruitment. Given his background, Jorge saw the CSA as a good opportunity to foster relationships and have a significant impact in the work environment for his Valencia colleagues.

“I hope to increase awareness of this great opportunity to enrich our professional lives through Career Staff Association engagement and participation,” Jorge said.

When asked why he thinks career service staff should join the CSA at East Campus, Jorge responded that “you’re already a member, just by virtue of your job classification.” He continued, “There are no dues or fees. It is just a great, wide-open opportunity for you to become active and engaged in your workplace.”

The East Campus CSA meets the second Wednesday of every month from 3:00-4:00 p.m. The location is included in the email invitation that is sent to East Campus career staff employees each month.

An open forum is scheduled with the new campus president, Dr. Stacey Johnson, for October 24 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in 5-112. “This a great opportunity for us to get to know our new campus leader and to give her an opportunity to get to know us,” Jorge said.

If you are interested in joining the CSA at East Campus, please contact Jorge Valladares at or at extension 2308.

The Career Staff Association goals are:

  • To address employee concerns.
  • To provide staff development opportunities.
  • To provide community outreach opportunities.
  • To raise awareness about the Career Staff Association and its benefits.

The Career Staff Association is hosting an Ice Cream Social this Friday, October 12 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the West Campus Special Events Center. All full-time career staff employees are invited to attend.
