Holiday Shutdown Competition Winners Announced
ShareThe West Career and Counseling Center team
A Holiday Energy Competition challenge was held collegewide for winter break, which encouraged faculty and staff to power down and unplug their electronics. Because winter break is one of the longer breaks at the College, this was a great opportunity to conserve energy. There were multiple award categories to encourage powering down, and the competition was stiff.
The Office of Sustainability is pleased to announce the following winners of the 2019 Winter Holiday Energy Competition:
- The Best Team Energy Reduction Award: West Career and Counseling Center
- The Best Team Collaboration Award: West Advising and Orientation
This team recited a chant before the morning shifts, enabling team members to have a fun, energetic start to the day and serve as a reminder to work toward reducing energy. Check out the team’s video.
- The New Solution for Energy Reduction Award: Poinciana Student Services team
The team identified behavior changes that can be made for long-term energy reduction.
Grand Prize Winner
The Grand Prize Award winner is the West Career and Counseling Center. The Grand Prize Winner was selected among the winners of the above categories for a combination of its efforts to reduce energy department-wide, including:
- Creating an Energy Czar;
- Distributing energy tips;
- Posting signs; and
- Turning the competition into a two-day fun event that ended with an informative video.
We look forward to holding a team celebration of coffee and cookies, compliments of our food service partner Valley Foods, later this month.
We want to thank all of the teams that participated in the competition, as well as the departments and individuals who turned off lighting and equipment for the holiday break.
