In the Spirit of Giving, Help the Valencia Foundation Endow the Pulse Memorial LGBT Scholarship

With winter break only a few days away, most of us may be in the same mindset: We eagerly await holiday parties, intimate family traditions and a time to celebrate a new year filled with new opportunity and horizons.

But, for some of us, this holiday season will bring a sense of emptiness as stockings go unhung and familiar, cheer-filled voices go unheard. Sadly, this will be the reality this season for many of those who lost loved ones during the Pulse tragedy, which took 49 innocent lives.

This sorrow, however, does not need to be without light because, together, we can honor those lost and empower those affected through the Valencia Foundation Pulse Memorial LGBT Scholarship, which serves to shine a light where there is darkness.

Already, our employees, students and friends have raised $9,700 — only $1,300 shy of the 2016 milestone of $11,000. With continued support, the Foundation is on track to raise the necessary $25,000 for endowment by the deadline of Friday, June 30, 2017. By working together, the minimum $25,000 endowment level can be reached to ensure the scholarship is awarded every year in memory of those lost and in the hopes that future generations will lead a brighter future. *Adding $5,000 more as a “stretch” goal for a total of $30,000 will allow the scholarship to be available for award immediately.

The thermometer image pictured above outlines Valencia’s projected donation milestones and, thus, depicts an opportunity for each and every one of us to make a contribution — no matter what size — to this worthy cause.

Making a donation is easy and can be made through payroll deductions or credit card to help ensure this scholarship lives on as a continual reminder of what has transpired and an inspiration to students who can follow their dreams because of it. Or, make a contribution in memory of a friend, family, colleague or community partner here.
