Introducing the Supervisor Summer Series

This June, supervisors will have the opportunity to participate in a new experience, the Supervisor Summer Series. By participating in this unique learning experience, supervisors will get to network with others in similar positions who are also seeking to better lead their teams. The curriculum is designed to address daily supervisory responsibilities and challenges and will provide supervisors with a set of resources essential both in a remote environment, and in an in-person work environment.

Based on recent conversations with supervisors, we are offering a professional development series surrounding the topic of supervising in a remote environment. This series is designed for all supervisors regardless of length of service in a supervisory role or experience with the topics.

Through a combination of individual and collective learning experiences, we expect participants will be able to:

  • Define the role of the supervisor
  • Describe the importance of effective communication
  • Identify tools and resources essential for daily application
  • Recognize the similarities and differences of supervising in a remote environment

The development series includes session topics that will be hosted virtually via Zoom with each session being up to 90 minutes. Pre-work will be encouraged before each session. Post-session emails will include links to relevant resources, as well as a brief reflective survey about the topic and your experience with it.

There will also be an opportunity for supervisors to receive a certificate of completion for the series.

Planned session topics include:

  • Setting Reasonable Expectations
  • Navigating Team Conflict
  • Performance Management (Addressing Performance Issues and Celebrating Accomplishments)
  • Navigating Change
  • The Psychology of COVID-19 Stress and Impact on Employee Motivation
