Jeff Goltz Publishes Higher Education Leadership Book

Congratulations to Jeff Goltz, executive dean, School of Public Safety, for writing and publishing the book “Higher Education Leadership Strategy in the Public Affairs Triumvirate: College and Community Engagement.”

The text explores the relationship between higher education and the community from a leadership perspective. It also offers examples of innovation in a variety of community projects. Specifically, the vision and implementation of the School of Public Safety, the transformation of policing in Puerto Rico through a training and education partnership, and fighting human trafficking with college and community connections.

With a foreword written by Valencia College President Sandy Shugart, the book is suitable for leadership students and higher education and public sector leaders, practitioners and scholars who are interested in learning about the application of concepts and theory in the multi-disciplinary field of public affairs as seen through a higher education leadership lens.

Jeff said he was motivated to write it because he wished to apply knowledge acquired through his University of Central Florida doctoral program, which he completed in 2006, and where he explored a “triumvirate” of sciences: community, organization and administration.

“I came to Valencia with the aspiration to apply my scholarship and public safety experience to my work at the School of Public Safety and in the community we serve,” he said.

The book is part of a series by Palgrave Macmillan Publishing titled “Rethinking University-Community Policy Connections.” The series includes published works by scholars, practitioners and ‘pracademics’ across a range of countries to explore substantive policy or management issues in the collaboration of higher education institutions and community-based organizations.

“This is the third book I have published and is very special to me because it reflects my years of study and experience over many years,” said Jeff. “It is my life’s work as a scholar and a “pracademic.”

The book is available on the publisher’s website and on Amazon.
