John Niss Named Interim Executive Dean at Winter Park Campus

A Message from Wendy Givoglu, Interim President, East and Winter Park Campuses

To ensure the continuity of leadership for the Winter Park Campus, John Niss, professor, mathematics, is now serving as the interim executive dean of the Winter Park Campus after Terri Graham (formally Daniels) was offered and accepted the role of interim president of the West and Downtown Campuses.

John has deep experience within the East Region, having taught at Valencia since 1995 on both the East and Winter Park Campuses. Most recently, John served as the Collegewide Faculty Association president in 2018-2019. Throughout his tenure, he has engaged in many collegewide initiatives, serving as a discipline coordinator for mathematics, as well as participating in the Collegewide Curriculum Committee (he was faculty co-chair from 2009 – 2017), faculty co-chair of the Program Learning Outcomes Model Design Team and faculty co-chair of the Instructional Materials Review Committee.

John is also a 25-year veteran chorister with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park. He has served as the choir’s tenor section leader for most of that time.

“A large part of what I love about the Winter Park Campus is our sense of community,” shared John. “That’s going to be hard to maintain in our current situation, so we’re all going to have to pull together. Any way that we can get students involved — clubs and organizations, Student Development, Learning Support — will be hugely important this semester.”

Congratulations, John, and we look forward to working with you in this position.
