Join the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) Today for Networking and Professional Development OpportunitiesShare
The Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) is the professional Association for Florida’s 28 public community colleges, their boards, employees, retirees and associates. The mission of the Association is to actively promote, democratically represent, support and serve the individual members and institutions in their endeavors to provide their students and the citizens of Florida with the best possible comprehensive community college educational system.
“AFC membership provides great opportunities for connecting and collaboration — not only with other Valencia employees — but with others across the state as well,” says Joe Nunes, coordinator, Total Rewards and AFC board member. “It also provides professional development opportunities.”
The group’s latest event allowed colleagues to have fun and network at an after-hours gathering. On Saturday, May 31, 2014, a dozen Valencia AFC chapter members enjoyed a half-day of deep sea fishing aboard the Orlando Princess out of Port Canaveral.
“The excursion was time well spent with colleagues, their families, and even retirees I’d not yet met from different campuses and disciplines,” shares Joy Jones, copywriter. “I look forward to participating in future AFC-sponsored events.”
Along with professional growth gained through exposure and shared information, members also receive discount programs on certain products and services.
“We would like to increase the membership in AFC significantly,” says Damion Hammock, professor of mathematics, Winter Park Campus and AFC President. “Membership is open to anyone, including part-time employees, adjunct professors and retirees.” Presently, there are 617 members.
Annual dues are based on the member’s salary, and most run from $35 to $75. President Shugart’s office will pay for new member dues for the first year if you agree to sign up for payroll deduction the following year.
