Bill White Wins OBJ CIO in Government/Education Award
Congratulations to Bill White, chief information officer (CIO), who was awarded the Orlando Business Journal’s (OBJ) C-Level Award in the CIO, Government/Education category! Bill was presented with the award at a special luncheon hosted by the OBJ on Friday, June 21, 2013.
OBJ C-Level Awards recognize Central Florida’s top chief financial officers, chief information officers and chief operating officers for their premier efforts. The context of the recognition focuses on four areas within their organization: the nominees’ strategic initiatives, innovations, growth (both in number of employees and net profits) and community involvement.
Bill was nominated by the vice president of operations and finance, Keith Houck, and considers it a “great honor.” OBJ highlights Bill’s leadership in increasing Valencia’s online education efforts and saving the college millions of dollars by bringing an outsourced computer service model back home to our office for information technology (OIT).
While Bill is honored to receive the award, he is quick to share the recognition with his team and colleagues. He explains that he sees the award as a, “much deserved recognition of the great team of OIT and college individuals who work every day to ensure Valencia’s technology systems are reliable and support the main mission and objectives of the college.”

Grenka Fletcher and Leah Mitchell Enjoy Tour of Heritage Center
Friday, May 17, 2013, was an exciting day for two Winter Park staff members, as they were recognized for their exceptional hard work. Grenka Fletcher, library specialist, and Leah Mitchell, part-time librarian, were honored with a special walking tour of Hannibal Square, which is only a few blocks away from the campus and has strong roots in Winter Park.
Barbara Chandler, manager of the Hannibal Square Heritage Center, facilitated the 40-minute tour, during which time Grenka and Leah had an opportunity to ask questions and learn about past, present and future happenings at the Heritage Center.
When Grenka and Leah returned to campus, they were surprised with a Valencia stainless steel bottle as a form of gratitude for the tremendous work they have done during the spring semester.
