Lake Nona Campus Rocks Global Peace Week

The Lake Nona Campus took part in the collegewide celebration of Global Peace Week this week. The featured event of Global Peace Week took place Wednesday, September 26, 2018, when more than 125 students, faculty and staff gathered to hear musician and civil rights activist Daryl Davis. Davis talked about his work with members of the Ku Klux Klan and how he has convinced over 200 Klansmen and Klanswomen to rethink their memberships and give up their robes. He inspired students to think about how communication can create change, asking them the simple question, “If we are living in space-age times, why are we thinking with Stone-Age minds?”
Davis then met with students, faculty and staff at the Lake Nona Campus for lunch. Finally, he treated the whole campus to an impromptu concert, wowing us all with his piano playing skills.
Thursday’s events also featured a showing of Accidental Courtesy: Daryl Davis, Race and America, a documentary about Davis’s work. If you missed it, you can find it on Netflix.
If you missed out on Global Peace Week, don’t worry. The Lake Nona Campus will host another week-long series of events in January for Conversations on Justice.
