Lehrer Dance Company and Dance Students Collaborate

A Message from Stacey Johnson, President, East and Winter Park Campuses

The Lehrer Dance Company visited the East Campus Dance Studio from Tuesday, September 19 through Thursday, September 21, 2017. The company is in its sixth year of working with Valencia dancers. This year, the Valencia Dance Theatre (VDT) was honored to spend a week with the Lehrer Dance Company setting the piece “Rhapsody.”

VDT is a community engagement organization presenting dance education through lecture demonstrations throughout a five-county area that includes DeLand High School, Osceola School for the Arts, the Dr. Phillips High School Visual and Performing Arts Program, the University of South Florida, the University of Florida, Daytona State College, and area elementary, middle and high schools.

The Lehrer Dance Company was founded in Buffalo, New York, by Jon Lehrer in 2007, whose choreography embodies his definitive style. His extensive background in both modern and jazz dance fosters choreography that is organic, artistic, accessible and, often, humorous, reflecting life experiences and the human condition.

VDT will showcase this new work in the Choreographers’ Showcase Concert, scheduled for Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18, 2017, and the Spring Dance Concert on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24, 2018, as well as on tour during the 2017-2018 VDT performance season.
