A Message from Carrie Black, Director, Energy Conservation and Sustainability
Thanksgiving is next week and we’re giving thanks for the break. If you are working on campus, as you wrap up this week and next before you leave for the holiday, give your electronics a break by powering them down —they’ve worked hard this year, too.
Look around your workspace and your department area, and be sure to power off your electronics that won’t disrupt serving students, including:
- Laptops and desktops
- Monitors
- Projectors
- Lights
- TVs
- Printers
- Copiers (if not expecting faxes sometime during the break)
And close the blinds to keep rooms cool.
Of all the energy used in the US in 2020 (27 trillion kWh), about two-thirds of it is actually wasted energy due to mechanical inefficiencies. Let’s power down this holiday break and save energy and money!
