Making a Difference in Our Community: Thank You to the Valencia Foundation Summer Scholarship Committee

Recipients of Valencia Scholarships

Each year, the Valencia Foundation awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to make college accessible to any student with a thirst for learning and the will to succeed. What many don’t realize, however, is that awarding these scholarships is a monumental effort. This summer, for example, the Valencia Scholarship Committee combed through more than 2,000 student applications to ultimately award more than 1,000 scholarships worth an excess of $500,000 in total.

This committee’s work is crucial to fulfilling Valencia’s mission, and the Valencia Foundation and the College are grateful for committee members’ time and diligence in awarding these scholarships.

For a list of committee contributors, please click the button below. (And be sure to give them your gratitude if you see them!)

If you’re interested in joining your colleagues on a future scholarship committee, please contact Elvin Cruz-Vargas, coordinator, scholarships and special projects, at ecruz52@valenciacollege.edu or 407-299-5000, extension 3154.

Throughout Valencia’s 50th anniversary year, to celebrate the College’s service to our community, we will feature stories of Valencia’s community impact and the volunteer efforts of our colleagues. Whether you volunteer as a board member of a foundation or you serve meals to the homeless, we want to hear about it, because every act of kindness is worth celebrating. To submit a Valencia volunteer story, simply email the_grove@valenciacollege.edu the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your photo (preferably of you volunteering)
  • Where you volunteer and a description of the organization
  • How long you have volunteered with that organization
  • Why you choose to volunteer with that organization
  • What you enjoy most about volunteering with that organization

Thank you to all who volunteered to serve on this important committee! We are so grateful for your time and enthusiasm. With over 500 scholarships to administer, we couldn't have done it without all the fine folks who joined in to help.
