Michelle Sever is the New Director of Employee Relations

From Amy Bosley, Associate Vice President of Organizational Communication and Development

I am pleased to introduce Michelle Sever, who joined Valencia as the director of employee relations on August 13, 2012. Michelle’s connection with Valencia started in 1996 when she began teaching as an adjunct instructor in the Criminal Justice Institute (CJI).

She comes to Valencia from Orange County government with over 21 years of experience. Most recently she served as the human resources administrator for the Family Services Department, and prior to that, she worked for Orange County Corrections.

Developing positive and successful relationships among employees, with supervisors, and with the organization as a whole is an important facet of retaining the best employees. To further this effort at Valencia, we have reorganized our office for organizational communication and development to accommodate a strong focus on employee relations, which resulted in the hiring of Michelle. The employee relations team also includes an assistant director of employee relations – a position that is currently in the recruitment process.

Although the work of redesigning the dispute resolution policies and procedures will be underway, employees who need assistance with handling workplace conflicts and supervisors who need assistance in working through conduct or performance issues should feel free to call Michelle at extension 8256.

An employee who perceives that he/she has been harassed or discriminated against based on a protected category such as race, gender, religion, national origin, etc. should contact Kevin Bonnewitz, the college’s equal opportunity and compliance officer, at extension 3421. Michelle and Kevin will work together to ensure that complaints and concerns are addressed in a timely manner by the appropriate office.

If you would like to welcome Michelle to the Valencia family, please do so by leaving a comment below.
