A Message from Kathleen Plinske, President, Osceola, Lake Nona and Poinciana Campuses
I am thrilled to share that we will be welcoming a number of new full-time faculty to the Osceola and Lake Nona Campuses this fall, which will allow us to add to the variety and number of courses that we offer in an effort to meet student enrollment demand. Throughout the summer, I will share brief biographies of our new faculty as a preview of who will be joining our team for the start of the 2016-17 academic year.
This week, I am pleased to share biographies of our new faculty in chemistry.
Lynta Thomas will join the Lake Nona Campus as a professor of chemistry. She received her Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Mahatma Gandhi University, her M.Phil. in chemistry from Kerala University, and her Ph.D. in chemistry from Cochin University of Science and Technology. She did her post-doctoral fellowship in physical chemistry and bioinorganic chemistry from the University of Arizona. Her research has led to a number of publications and presentations. Lynta was previously employed as full-time professor of chemistry and department chair of the Science and Technology Division, Community Campus at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona.
Chuck Davis will join the Osceola Campus as a professor of chemistry. He holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Arizona State University with additional academic work at Louisiana State University, University of Mary-Hardin-Baylor, University of Central Florida and Keller Graduate School of Management. Prior to joining the Valencia team, he spent 15 years as a full-time professor with DeVry University and two years with Mountain State University.
The majority of his graduate work focused on the synthesis and characterization of microporous solids, which led him to a research and development position with the Clorox Company, where he was the lead scientist for the Brita Pour Through Water Filtration System. In addition to his scientific consulting efforts, he is also an active member of several Central Florida charities. In an effort to challenge his artistic side, he runs a specialized photography business that focuses on concert photography. In the past seven years, he has photographed a huge variety of musical acts for iHeartMedia, including artists such as Janet Jackson, Pete Townshend, Roger Waters, Slash, Buddy Guy, Alice Cooper, Blake Shelton, Billy Joel and Rod Stewart. He is engaged to be married in early August and has one son who is on active duty with U.S. Special Operations near Venice, Italy.
