Some of our students face unimaginable challenges every day, like 2016 Black Advisory Committee Incentive Award winners Chanika Charles, who was abandoned by both of her parents at a young age and was forced to financially support her younger siblings, and Issac Thomas, who, although blind, has the vision, determination and intellect to take him anywhere he wants to go.
Valencia is a sanctuary for these types of students, and our doors are always open for them.
That is why, for the last 41 years, the Black Advisory Committee has honored a number of students annually who have persisted and succeeded at the College despite great adversity by holding the Black Advisory Committee Incentive Awards.
Just like in past years, Valencia’s Black Advisory Committee needs your help to make a difference in students’ lives by recommending students you feel are deserving of these honors.
Your recommendations for student award winners will be evaluated by a committee of individuals who represent various areas of the College. Students are selected without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, ethnicity, color, age, marital status, gender, genetic information or disability.
Each nominee must have completed at least 12 hours of course work at Valencia with a GPA of 2.5 or better and be degree seeking.
To nominate a student, click the button below, complete the application and email it to Amy Bosley, vice president, organizational development and human resources, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or send via interoffice mail to DO-21. Nominations are due by Friday, October 20, 2017.Recipients will be honored during an awards ceremony on Friday, December 1, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in the West Campus Special Events Center.
