Outbound Call Campaign Designed to Ease Students’ Fears of Transitioning to Online Learning

Beginning on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, more than 250 Valencia employees from across the College will call nearly 38,000 students who are enrolled in face-to-face and mixed-mode courses as part of the “We’re in this Together” campaign. Callers will chat about the move of our courses online, share the resources available to help students with the transition, and attempt to calm and encourage students who may feel anxiety about the move from in-person or mixed-mode to online classes.

Callers are encouraging students to check their Atlas email frequently for updates, providing details on how to access tutors and sharing a new Keep Learning webpage, designed to provide helpful resources for online learning. They are also alerting students that to allow them enough time to give online courses a try, they have until Friday, April 17, 2020, to determine whether or not they would like to stay in the course.

On Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, 2020, we also offered five virtual Q&A sessions for more than 50 students that allowed them to ask questions in a group setting about the transition to online courses. Additionally, we offered an Instagram Live Q&A session on Sunday, March 22 and Monday, March 23, 2020.

“Thank you superstars Melanie Hardy, web/portal developer, who built the most-awesome platform this past weekend for our sessions, Erin Ohlsen, director, alumni engagement and annual giving, who shared her deep experience in campaigns, and our 18 colleagues who agreed to serve as campaign captains” said Isis Artze-Vega, vice president, academic affairs.
