Peace and Justice Institute Newsletter Now Available

The Peace and Justice Institute (PJI) is poised to make a significant impact in education, law, public safety, healthcare and our faith communities with the seeds it has planted over the last 10 years. Now, celebrating its 10th anniversary, what was once a a small group of 12 has evolved into a community of practitioners providing mutual support, honesty and encouragement. Read about how PJI is planting those seeds in the newly released issue of the PJI newsletter.

In this issue, watch an inspiring 10th anniversary video, as participants explain what PJI means to them.

Explore “Sowing Peace, Growing Peace Through Service,” a peace ambassador program for students funded through a generous endowed gift to PJI and the Valencia Foundation by Professor Emeritus Penny Villegas, who serves on the PJI Advisory Council and was a founding member of PJI, and led by Paul Chapman, professor, humanities. The program provides students with the opportunity to become peace leaders by exploring nonviolent wisdom and practices of cultures past and present.

Also, discover how PJI partnered with the Orlando Fire Department and the City of Orlando to bring leadership workshops to officers from the rank of lieutenant through chief, as well as other PJI initiatives.

If you’d like to get involved in PJI, this newsletter offers numerous upcoming events, such as one with Beverly Tatum, scholar and author of “Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria” that will be held in February 2018.
