A Message from Michelle Sever, Director, Policy and Special Projects
Valencia College is committed to providing a safe and healthy academic and workplace environment. Alcohol and drug abuse poses a threat to students and employees; specifically, it may negatively impact students and employee performance, personal health, and campus/workplace safety. In fostering a drug-free campus and work environment to demonstrate the College’s continued commitment to student and employee well-being, two collegewide policies relating to drug-free campuses and workplace were recently consolidated and approved at the December District Board of Trustees meeting.
College Policy 10-08 Drug-free Campuses and Workplace provides information for students and employees on the following topics:
- Standards of conduct
- Legal sanctions under local, state and federal law
- Description of health risks associated with the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol
- Description of alcohol and drug education, counseling and treatment resources
- Description of potential disciplinary sanctions
Students and employees are responsible for abiding by this policy as a condition of enrollment or employment. A link to this updated policy and resources will be provided in the student catalog and student/employee handbooks.
As a supervisor, you are encouraged to familiarize yourselves with the policy and resources to include sharing this information with your teams.
