By Jeff Goltz, Executive Dean, Public Safety
When the School of Public Safety (SPS) was commissioned in December 2014, the School’s intentional service integration mission was established to integrate law enforcement, fire rescue, corrections, emergency management services, the private and hospitality security industry, and other public safety organizations. This integration not only included education and training, but outreach for employment of our students in all areas of Central Florida public safety.
On Tuesday, February 13, 2018, the School of Public Safety held its biggest and best Public Safety Job Fair event to date. A total of 39 public safety agencies and their recruiters participated, from as far as Tallahassee and Charlotte County.
The entire Central Florida region was well represented, which included Orange County Fire Rescue; UCF Department of Criminal Justice; Leesburg Police Department; Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office; Tallahassee Police Department; and Orange County Corrections — to name a few.
Nearly 140 students participated in the job fair, many walking away with potential employment opportunities in public safety. This multi-disciplinary public safety event was amazing, and the recruiters thanked the School of Public Safety for the great response and the quality of the Valencia law enforcement, corrections and fire students.
All of the public safety agencies that participated are excited to return to the next job fair at the School of Public Safety in August.
