School of Public Safety Hosts Integrated Job Fair — A New Era with Partner Agencies

By Jeff Goltz, Executive Dean, Public Safety

When the School of Public Safety (SPS) was commissioned in December 2014, the School’s intentional service integration mission was established to integrate law enforcement, fire rescue, corrections, emergency management services, the private and hospitality security industry, and other public safety organizations. This integration not only included education and training, but outreach for employment of our students in all areas of Central Florida public safety.

On Tuesday, February 16, 2016, SPS continued to execute its mission by hosting the largest, multi-industry, public safety job fair to date at Valencia. In total, 39 agencies from local, county and state law enforcement, corrections, fire rescue, private and hospitality security, health and wellness, and 82 of their employees from the Orange, Osceola and Seminole county-area participated. In the past, only law enforcement and corrections agencies participated, and this job fair continues to usher in a new era of collaboration between the College and our external stakeholder agencies.

The success of this event is attributed to the planning of the Public Safety Operations, Criminal Justice Institute, Fire Rescue Institute and security staff at the College. The team at SPS is looking forward to the next job fair this summer.

We welcome new ideas for a bigger and better event in the future as the College continues to prepare our students for public safety employment and success in our region, a region that due to record tourism, the burgeoning population and our citizen’s top concern of crime and safety, has to lead the nation in premier public safety training and education.
