A Message From Isis Artze-Vega, Provost and Vice President, Academic Affairs
On Wednesday, September 15, 2021, we will launch the search for five provost positions in alignment with our new campus leadership model and centralized leadership for career and professional programs. We are committed to conducting an inclusive, equity-minded search, guided in part by the recommendations of the Equity-Mindedness in the Employee Experience work team.
The campus provosts will provide campus-based and collegewide leadership with an emphasis on our general education programs. A provost of career and professional programs will provide leadership for Valencia College’s career and professional programs.
The provosts are integral members of the senior leadership team. These leaders will exemplify and promote learning-centeredness, equity-minded practice and collaborative shared governance, and will contribute to the advancement of equitable student access, completion, transfer and career credential attainment. They will prioritize these efforts and mindsets in their support of deans, faculty and staff, as well as in their engagement in the local community, where they will represent the College as a community partner.
Search Committee and Timeline
In response to the call to participate on the provost search committee, more than 50 employees, including 20 full-time faculty, expressed interest. This week, committee members will be notified and invited to an initial meeting, during which they will discuss their charge, the overall process, as well as expectations and support for the facilitation of an inclusive, equity-minded search.
In addition to the collegewide search committee, we are forming five “advisory” groups, four of which will represent each of the campus pairings and one focused on the career and professional programs role.
The Provost Search Committee will begin a review of applications in October 2021 and will continue working until selections are made. To be considered for the positions, applications must be received no later than Monday, October 18, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
