September 11 Memorial Events

A message from Dr. Kathleen Plinske, Campus President, Osceola and Lake Nona

On Monday we will begin the process of installing 2,977 flags at the Osceola Campus, one for each person who was killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. There are many opportunities to volunteer:

  • Monday, August 26 – 5:00pm-sunset – flagpole installation
  • Tuesday, August 27 – 5:00pm-sunset – flagpole installation
  • Wednesday, August 28 – 5:00pm-sunset – flagpole installation
  • Thursday, August 29 – 5:00pm-sunset – flagpole installation
  • Tuesday, September 3 – 5:00pm-sunset – flagpole installation
  • Wednesday, September 4 – 5:00pm-sunset – flagpole installation
  • Thursday, September 5 – 5:00pm-sunset – flagpole installation
  • Friday, September 6 – 10:00am – installation of the flags

If you would like to help with the installation of the memorial, you can come out to the area around the Clock Tower on any of these dates. There is no need to pre-register, but it would be helpful if you brought gloves and a hammer or mallet.

On Saturday, September 7, we are partnering with the Valencia Alumni Association to host the Valencia 5K Run/Walk for Heroes. The 5K begins at 6:30pm, and there will also be a fun run and other activities for children. All proceeds will support the Rotary Club of Lake Nona’s scholarship fund for emergency responders through the Valencia Foundation.

On Wednesday, September 11, we will once again host the Osceola County September 11 Memorial Service at 1:30pm. Please encourage your students to attend, and if you are teaching at this time, please consider taking your class to this powerful memorial service; it will last approximately 45 minutes.
