Week of September 3 – 9, 2017

Congratulations to …

A Message from Stacey Johnson, President, East and Winter Park Campuses

Congratulations to Nancy Maurer who was named the new East Campus interim dean of social sciences and physical education in July 2017. Affiliated with Valencia College since 1999, first as a student and then a tutor, Nancy was originally pursuing a math degree and changed her major to humanities and history following a spring break trip to Europe in 2000.

Nancy began her college teaching career in 2006, working as a part-time faculty member at both the University of Central Florida and Valencia. Then, in 2017, she accepted an offer from Valencia for a full-time teaching position in the History department.

Excited about her new dean role, Nancy shared, “I am thrilled to be a part of the work we are doing here at Valencia. Teaching and learning are my two greatest passions. I enjoy working with our diverse and talented students, faculty members and support staff as we journey together making a better future for all.”

Kudos also go out to Mark Logas, professor, political science, who was recently nominated and elected as the second vice president of the Florida Political Science Association (FPSA). In 2009, he became the first community college professor elected to the statewide organization as an executive council member.

Earlier this year, Mark played an instrumental part in having Valencia College become the first community college to host the annual FPSA annual international conference. Mark’s sabbatical research report is scheduled for publication this fall in the Florida Political Chronicle.
