September is National Food Safety Education Month — a great opportunity to raise awareness about the steps we can take to safely prepare our food and protect ourselves from food poisoning.
Do you know that before students can enter the Culinary Lab, they must pass an entire course that is pretty rigorous just on food safety and sanitation? They learn all about the proper temperatures for food, how to prevent and destroy microorganisms that can occur in food, how to clean and sanitize properly, and the correct set up of equipment and facilities, among other practices based on the USDA food code.
