A Message from Wendy Givoglu, Interim President, East and Winter Park Campuses

The Valencia College Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Development kicked off their first on-campus fall 2021 event on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, with a “Paradise Cove” themed Club Rush and Resource Fair. This event introduced students to many clubs and organizations on campus. Even though most classes are virtual, 22 campus organizations participated in the event, and 250 students attended.

Pooky’s Pantry hosted “ReStock to ReOpen Challenge,” a food drive, from Monday, August 23 – Thursday, September 23, 2021. A total of $3,178 was collected collegewide. More than 70 students have been utilizing the East Campus pantry since the beginning of the fall semester.

Please continue to donate to Pooky’s Pantry using either of the methods below:

  1. Bring food or hygiene items to the administrator in Building 4, Room 134.
  2. Drop food in donation bins on campus: Building 4 (first floor, outside the pantry) and Building 5 (second floor).
  3. Donate to the Valencia College Foundation, click on “Give Now” and “Pooky’s Pantry Fund” as your designation.

Student Development presented a tribute to the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 on Friday, September 10, 2021. A display of pictures detailing the timeline of this historic event and a tribute to first responders was available for viewing.

On Thursday, October 7, 2021, the campus community participated in a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration and enjoyed a plate of authentic Hispanic cuisine while listening to both old and new Spanish music played by DJ Orlando of Press Play Entertainment.

“This celebration brought me joy since I was able to meet new people, and the Empanadas were delicious!” student leader Jaime Gilbert shared.
